Privacy Policy — TabNotes

TabNotes ("TabNotes," "we," "us," or "our") is a Chrome browser extension developed by CodersNexus that lets you keep tabbed notes inside your browser. This policy explains what information TabNotes collects, how it is used, where it is stored, and who it is shared with. It applies to the TabNotes extension and the backend services it talks to.

We wrote this policy in plain language on purpose. If anything here is unclear, contact us using the details at the bottom of this page.

1. Information We Collect

TabNotes does not read, collect, or transmit your browsing history, the content of other websites you visit, or any data from tabs other than its own popup window. The only information TabNotes handles is the information described below.

1.1 Your notes

The text you type into TabNotes ("Notes Content") is saved to your device automatically using Chrome's built-in local storage. Notes Content never leaves your device unless you activate a paid license and either press "Save to Cloud" or turn on auto-save — in which case it is sent to our cloud storage so it's available across your devices.

1.2 License and account information

If you activate a license key, TabNotes sends that key to our license verification service to confirm it's valid. In response, we receive and store your name, email address, and subscription status so we can show your license status inside the extension and keep your cloud notes tied to your account.

1.3 Preferences

Your theme, window size, and auto-save setting are stored so the extension remembers your preferences. This information is not personally identifying on its own.

We do not collect your browsing history, page content from other tabs, location, financial/payment card details, or any data through analytics or advertising SDKs. TabNotes contains no third-party trackers or ad code of any kind.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To save and display your notes, locally and (if you've activated a license) in the cloud, across your devices.

  • To verify your license key and determine which features you have access to.

  • To remember your display preferences.

  • To operate, maintain, and troubleshoot the service (e.g., diagnosing a failed sync).

We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or to determine creditworthiness, and we never sell it.

3. Where Your Data Is Stored and How It's Protected

  • On your device: Notes are saved with Chrome's storage.local API, sandboxed to your browser profile.

  • Chrome Sync: Your license key, account details, and preferences are saved with Chrome's storage.sync API, which Google syncs across your signed-in devices according to your own Chrome/Google Account settings.

  • Our servers: If you sync notes to the cloud, they are transmitted over HTTPS and stored in our MongoDB database, associated with your account.

All transmission between the extension and our servers happens over encrypted HTTPS connections. We do not store payment card details on our servers — purchases are processed by our store and payment processor on a separate website, not inside the extension.

4. Who We Share Information With

We do not sell, rent, or share your information with advertisers, data brokers, or information resellers. We share data only with the service providers necessary to run TabNotes:

  • Our own license verification service ("Nexus") — operated by CodersNexus, used to validate license keys and subscriptions.

  • Our hosting and database providers — used to run our servers and store synced notes and account records securely.

  • Google Chrome Sync — used to sync your license/preference data across your own devices, governed by your Google Account settings.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect against fraud or abuse, or as part of a merger or sale of our business — in which case we'll seek your consent where required.

5. Data Retention and Deletion

Local notes remain on your device until you delete them or uninstall the extension. Cloud notes and account records remain on our servers while your license is active and for a reasonable period afterward, so you don't lose your notes if you reactivate later. Removing your license key from the extension stops cloud sync but does not automatically delete your cloud-stored notes. To request permanent deletion of your account and cloud data, contact us using the details below — we will delete it within a reasonable time.

6. Your Choices

  • You can use TabNotes entirely offline and locally — cloud sync is opt-in and requires a license.

  • You can remove your license at any time from the extension's Settings panel, which stops further cloud transmission.

  • You can request a copy or deletion of your account data by contacting us.

  • You can uninstall the extension at any time, which removes all locally stored notes from your device.

7. Children's Privacy

TabNotes is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

8. Limited Use Disclosure

TabNotes's use and transfer of information received from Chrome Web Store APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We'll update the "Last updated" date above whenever we do. Continued use of TabNotes after an update means you accept the revised policy.
